Langhe-Roero Monferrato: a treasure which still amazes
The hills of Langhe-Roero Monferrato are one of the wonders of which Italy can boast.
Langhe are part of the UNESCO heritage since 2014 and are divided into six wine areas that extend in the southern part of Piedmont, between the river Po and the Ligurian Apennines, and have as emblem the Castle of Grinzane Cavour that has made the history of viticulture and Italian winemaking.
Among the slopes covered by vineyards there are small medieval villages and castles, which are part of the provinces of Alessandria, Asti, Cuneo (twenty-nine municipalities that occupy almost eleven thousand hectares), and where farmhouses, wineries, wineries are still active and thrive, social wineries, public and private wine shops.
Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbera d’Asti, Asti spumante: these are the excellences protected by a specific Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin that have made this territory known internationally.
Why choose to live in the piedmontese Langhe
A stracasa in this area of Piedmont opens you to a series of sensory experiences that are difficult to describe. The territory offers natural beauty to explore, a wealth of food and wine of the highest level, countries and villages where history and art are jealously guarded.
Surrounded by greenery, among vineyards and woods, rivers and streams, but also just a few steps from important and socially lively cities: your stracasa will make you live a piece of Italy that is only for a few connoisseurs.
It’s history, tradition, passion
In this area were found pollens of vines dating back to the fifth century BC, when the Etruscans and Celts came into contact and exchanged knowledge and traditions, but it was during the Roman Empire that Pliny the Elder designated the Piedmontese region as the ideal land for the cultivation of vineyards in ancient Italy. Over the centuries the relationship with this “nectar of the Gods” has been strengthened and refined, transforming into art. The Museum In vigna del Castello di Grinzane Cavour, inaugurated in 2021, has created an educational path dedicated to the cultivation of vines and the history of wine, completing the cycle with the infernot carved in the Pietra da Cantoni that were used for the domestic storage of the finest wines.
The Association for the Heritage of Langhe-Roero and Monferrato Wine Landscapes coordinates the management of all initiatives that enhance the territory since 2011 and the site has become an irresistible attraction for nature lovers (among vineyards and truffle groves, hazel trees and pastures), culture (between art cities and historic villages), sport (trekking, Nordic walking, road bike, mountain bike and e-bike) and good wine (moscato, barbera, dolcetto and nebbiolo), of course.
Villages and hamlets among the valleys
The Alta Langa (which includes the provinces of Alessandria, Asti and Cuneo) offers small villages, ancient watchtowers, country churches with frescoes and castles along the ancient Via del Sale, but you can also immerse yourself in art parks with contemporary art installations between rivers and streams, woods and pastures in the Valli Belbo, Tanaro or Bormida. colors offered with generosity by the surrounding nature.
In the Lower Langa, however, we find Alba which is the renowned land of the White Truffle, and was declared in 2017 Creative City UNESCO in the category “Gastronomy” for the excellence of food and business development that has been able to combine raw materials, companies, cities
and communities.
Do not miss the International White Truffle Fair of Alba (October-December) to taste this prestigious protagonist of haute cuisine combined with traditional dishes and, to learn more, the National Truffle Studies Center that collects everything that is the past, the present and the future of this precious fungus that lives underground. It is also possible to participate in the search for truffles, an experience that involves all the senses and that becomes a precious memory to tell.
A journey through the city: the marvels of Alexandria, Asti and Cuneo
Alessandria can be called a majestic city for its squares, arcades and baroque buildings. The Citadel (a masterpiece of military architecture on the banks of the river Tanaro) is a view that takes your breath away at least as much as the Cathedral of San Pietro e Marco, while the multimedia exhibition at the AcdB Museum – Alessandria City of Bicycles (dedicated to the Italian cycling champions Luigi Malabrocca and Fiorenzo Magni) definitely worth a visit even for
those not so passionate about cycling.
Asti is an ancient Roman colony and is also called “the city of 100 towers” (the oldest is the Red Tower and was part of the Roman gateway to the city). Its historic centre offers a very suggestive walk between the Palazzo Medici del Vascello and its Torre Comentina alla Collegiata with its arcades and café, the Church of San Secondo and the Cathedral in Lombard Gothic style, one of the largest churches in Piedmont.
Cuneo, between the Langhe and Roero, is perfect for a food and wine trip because it has a considerable number of restaurants and food shops that offer the typical products of the territory: truffles, cheeses, meats and wines. Not only: the medieval village of Mondovì not far from the city, is one of the most evocative destinations for those who want to live a delightful experience for the eyes and the palate.

Discover Italy – May 25, 2023
Living in Italy becomes very complicated if you don’t know a little Italian because not everyone here knows English so well to be able to converse with you without misunderstanding (German and French are spoken in border regions such as Trentino Alto-Adige and Valle d’Aosta).
Second Home Tips – April 20, 2023
Living a house only a few weeks a year and leaving it empty for 89% of the time, without being able to make a living and bearing the ordinary and extraordinary costs of maintenance as if I lived it every day, is decidedly unattractive.
This doesn’t happen, though, if you buy a stracasa. The investment vision is completely revolutionized by the co-ownership we’ve come up with.
